Dreamfeeding
What is Dreamfeeding?
Dreamfeeding is breastfeeding during a baby’s light sleep without the baby completely waking up.1,2 A benefit of dreamfeeding is to help stimulate milk production and maintain supply, especially if your baby is sleeping for long periods of time. This is especially important during the first few months of life.
- Keep Baby Close: Keep the baby close to you at night and gently guide your baby to your breast.
- Gently Rouse Your Baby: Pick up your baby gently and offer the breast. Some babies may latch on and start feeding without fully waking up.
- Monitor Your Baby: Monitor your baby during dreamfeeding to ensure they are feeding safely and comfortably.
